The 18-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in world football and only Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard have more assists in Europe’s top five leagues
Arsene Wenger has admitted he tried to sign Jadon Sancho for Arsenal when he was still at Manchester City.
The 18-year-old has announced himself on the world stage in the past year as one of the brightest young talents in European football.
After leaving City in 2016, Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund in the hope of getting regular game time – a move which was initially viewed with scepticism.
However, the winger has established himself at Dortmund as one of the first names on the team sheet and only Eden Hazard and Lionel Messi have more assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
Before turning Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez in knots during the Champions League first leg at Wembley, former Gunners boss Wenger hailed the starlet as ‘one of the best’ of his generation.
“He is one of the best players of his generation,” He told beIN SPORTS. “He can dribble, he has that arrogance.
“Look at the boy; he has something in there that is part of the big players.
“You can call that confidence, arrogance, belief. But it has to be there.
“He has to turn up tonight and play.”
Blessed with incredible pace, skills and the ability to create something out of nothing, Sancho seems destined for the top.
After picking up a senior England cap against the USA earlier in the season, the future certainly seems bright.
In fact, the Frenchman admitted he tried to bring the Kennington-native back to his London roots, with a switch to the Emirates potentially on the cards.
He added: “It’s an incredible story because the pressure now on these young boys, from an early age, is very big.
“The second thing is the pressure from all the clubs. I say that freely because I wanted to take him from man City when he didn’t get the games.

“I tried as well to lure him because he is from London – I tried to get him to Arsenal.

“So I must say, for these boys, it is a test because they are rich before they play.”
